EEWL labs score in campus safety awards
The labs of two EEWL faculty just took top honors for their respective college in the 2026 UC Davis Lab Safety Awards Program! They earned superb scores in their annual Lab Safety Review and received additional points through supplemental questions and surveys.
Rachael Bay's lab won the award for the College of Biological Sciences for the second time. Research in the Bay lab includes benchwork, field research both on the California coast and in the South Pacific, and computational analyses of lots and lots (...and lots) of genomic data. For the latter, lab personnel have prioritized good ergonomics in computer use to minimize repetitive stress injuries.
Aaand (drumroll please...) Valerie Eviner's lab in the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences received the Grand Prize for the entire campus, as well as honors for her college. Eviner and her team spend long hours in the field studying plant communities. Their focus on prioritizing safety, taking breaks before they're needed, and advance planning helps keep everyone healthy and safe.
Congratulations to all!
