Environmental, ecological, and evolutionary genomic responses to stress
Andrew Whitehead seeks to understand how genomes integrate cues from, respond to, and are shaped by the external environment. Students in his lab examine genomic responses to stress that occur over both physiological timescales (acclimation responses) and evolutionary timescales (adaptive responses). EERREC students in this project might use approaches that include genome expression profiling, population genetics/genomics and phylogenetics, and physiology, to study organismal responses to both natural (temperature, salinity) and anthropogenic (pollutants, climate change) stressors.
