Update, Summer 2025

The EEWL REU is in the midst of our summer program.
Everyone is hard at work in their labs, with some developing an unforeseen fondness for their study organism ("Corn is growing on me...."). In addition to research, scholars are taking part in a science communication workshop and learning R scripting.
Yet to come: field trips to Corteva Agriscience and the Yolo Basin Foundation to learn about our local bat colony.
And scholar-organized weekend excursions to San Francisco and various state parks and other regional attractions have already happened.

Angelo LaCommare-Soto and Kenny Damper took a break from conducting field research for their MS programs (San Francisco State University and the University of Wisconsin, Madison, respectively) for a quick visit to Davis. They took time for photos at one of the iconic campus entryways and reunion with the lunch fare at Taqueria Davis.

EEWL co-PI Anne Todgham received recognition from the Society of Experimental Biology as the recipient of the Bidder Plenary Lecture Award, given annually to a prominent scientist of outstanding merit who has demonstrated excellence in their fields of research. The award citation recognized her work in addressing whether animals have the physiological flexibility necessary to withstand the unprecedented rates of environmental change. Moreover, the citation lauded her role in teaching, mentoring, and working to build the careers of students, staff, and faculty.
Dr. Todgham's true sense of achievement comes from building capacity of those around her by opening doors...she believes to her core that universities should be a place where everyone has the opportunity to be their very best. -- Society for Experimental Biology
Congratulations to Anne and thank you for all that you do!
