Winter 2026 updates
We're accepting applications for our 2026 cohort -- see https://ecoevoreu.ucdavis.edu/apply for more information. Application review begins on 15 February 2026.
And we have updates on our alumni!
2022 Cohort
Aadia Moseley-McCloud finished her MS last April and now is a PhD student in the Classen lab at the University of Michigan. Continuing in the circle of life, she's mentoring undergraduates and encouraging them to apply to REU programs.
She also had a busy and productive summer: she visited Luke Sparreo in New York, and presented her MS research at the annual meeting of the Ecological Society of America, where she reconnected with her UC Davis mentor, Jenny Gremer.
Speaking of whom...Luke Sparreo enjoyed a "hot, wet, buggy, and super fun" summer of field work on pitcher plants. He also published the first paper from his dissertation. Congratulations to Luke!
Sparreo and Bedoya, 2026. Interaction of Sequence Data and Paleogeographic Priors in Biogeographic Dating: How Could Biological Data Inform Time-Constrained Geological Models?
Abstract: Biological and geographic patterns and processes are linked such that biological data hold information on paleogeographical patterns and processes. Here, we aimed to test Biogeographic dating as a methodological framework for the integration of biological, paleontological and geological data to test paleogeographic hypotheses. In doing so, we test the potential for well-calibrated phylogenies and the impact of accuracy and uncertainty in geological priors for estimating paleogeographic events.

2023 Cohort
Cailin Kessen is enjoying working with Monarch Watch as part of her PhD work at the University of Kansas.
Helen Noroian is planning some adventure travel in New Zealand while she also searches for positions in plant ecology in the Western US.
2025 Cohort
Lorenzo McCleese will be working at the NOAA Southwest Fisheries Science Center in Monterey, doing computational research on climate impacts on marine ecosystems through a NOAA Hollings Scholarship.
James Rodriguez has an internship to count birds for Summer 2026! See his bio for the deets. Lots of deets.
